Zack "Cotton" Hopkins, Jr. Obituary

“Grief is the last act of love we have to give to those we loved.  Where there is deep grief, there was great love”. Zack R. “Cotton” Hopkins, Jr., 64, will be deeply missed by the love of his life, his wife Brenda Jo Davis Hopkins, who he was married to for 17 years.  Cotton was a native of Rockcastle County, KY, born June 25, 1953, to the late Zack Raymond, Sr. and Margaret Mary Loretta Ann Spinnewebber Hopkins.  He enjoyed farming and became known as the "Gardening Angel" because he loved to share his vegetables with family, friends, and neighbors by leaving what he grew at their houses.  Cotton was a self-employed carpenter by trade, as was Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He loved to work with wood. Whether building something or cutting and splitting wood for a fire, he was happy being outdoors. Cotton also enjoyed animals, especially his dog Jack, an Australian Shepherd, and Jackson, a Walker Hound, his beloved Peanut, and cats that only he could befriend. He and Brenda enjoyed many walks in the country. His favorite saying when someone asked where he was from was " I'm from Heaven-- I'm just down here on a visit", and he would never tell them anything different. They also had attended Buena Vista Baptist Church.  In addition to his wife, he leaves to cherish his memory children Cynthia Hopkins Neeley, Melanie Amber Hopkins Creech, husband Rodney, Zack Thomas Hopkins, and a special nephew who was like a son Brian McCollum, grandchildren Dustin Creech, wife Jesse, Austin Creech, and Maddie Creech, Stacey Evans Moberly, husband Jordan, David Evans, Spencer Blake Hopkins, Britney Faith Hopkins, great-grandchildren Aaron Moberly and Grace Lynn Creech, sisters Jean Hopkins Day, husband Jerry, Joan Hopkins Drury, husband Roger, Wanda Hopkins Day, husband Donald, Rosie Hopkins Saylor, and brother Johnny Hopkins, wife Helen, as well as his wife’s sisters Ann Brent, Judie Karpuleon, Linda and Charlotte Davis, and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by brothers Clarence, Jimmy, Billy, Ernie, Sr., and Michael Hopkins and sister Elizabeth “Sue” Hopkins Tuggle, grandson Jeffery Aaron Evans, and great-granddaughter Audrey Moberly.  A Remembrance Service will be held 1:00 PM Wednesday, Jan. 24, at Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home. Following the service Cotton will be laid to rest in Maple Grove Cemetery.  Honoring him as pallbearers will be Brian McCollum, Johnny Hopkins, Zack Thomas Hopkins, Donnie Ray West, Ernie Lee Hopkins, Donald Day, Jr., and Tony Day.  Honorary bearers will be Benny Karpuleon, Tommy Cobb, Jason Price, Jonathon Cobb, Danny Hager, Austin Creech, Wayne Landrum, Jerry Day, Jean Ashcraft, Jim Davis, Jamie Beazley, Roger Drury, and Melissa Benson.  His family will greet friends on Tuesday, Jan. 23, starting at 4:00 PM and ending at 8:00 PM.  “When the sunset has set for me and I have reached the end of the road, remember the good times that we have shared”.
