Obituary

Thompson “Tom” Davis East, 89, a native of Jessamine County, a local historian and great story-teller entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, May 10, 2023.  Tom lived a life filled with many interests. As a young man he played football as a running back, joined the Naval Reserves and began working as a welder building smoke stacks and became a steel salesman. Tom loved antiques, especially his steam engine built by his father Curtis East in 1932. Having played football, he loved to travel to watch UK football.  In his later years he enjoyed family reunions and meeting distant relatives.  He also began cooking lunch for his buddies and invited many to come eat Taco Soup (his favorite), potato soup and pinto beans. His favorite dessert was Pineapple Up-Side Down cake made in an iron skillet.  Tom was born in Jessamine County on March 6, 1934, to the late Curtis and Miranda Davis East.  He was one of seven children with Roland “Rock” East being the only one surviving him.  He is preceded in death by brothers Charles “Sid”, Elwood “Cadillac”, W.C. “Buster”, Alexander “Alex”,  and Paul “Paully” East. In addition to his brother, his survived by a cousin and best friend Baxter “Lloyd” East, many nieces, nephews and extended family members and friends.  A Remembrance Service will be 11:00 AM Thursday,  May 18, at Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home, and he will be laid to rest following the Service in Maple Grove Cemetery.  Honoring him as pallbearers will be Baxter East, Randy East, Rick Hisle, Chuck Canter, David Thomas, Kelly Shaw, Phillip East and Eddie Kegley.  Honorary bearers will be Ben Brown, John Kelly, Jesse LeMay, Cindy Herrick, Johnny Davis, Stephanie Buford, Ledale Stinnett, Howard Downing, and Doug Downing.  The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, beginning at 4:00 PM until 8:00PM.  “His life was a blessing, his memory a treasure; he was loved by many and will be missed beyond measure.”  Hager & Cundiff values nothing more than he trust and loyalty given to us to care for Tom’s arrangements.
