Martha Fawbush Obituary

Martha’s Obituary

Martha Jean Howard Fawbush of Round Rock, Texas, formerly of Nicholasville, Kentucky, beloved mother, grandmother and friend, left this world for a perfect one on February 2, 2021.  She was born February 3, 1936, in Cincinnati, Ohio to John J. and Betty Jean Sandusky Howard, who preceded her in death along with her husband of 61 years, the Rev. Howard M. Fawbush who died in 2017.

Martha is survived by a son, Jeffery H. Fawbush and wife, Margaret of Springfield, TN, a daughter, Janet R. Klosterboer and husband, Larry, of Round Rock, TX, three grandchildren Kevin Klosterboer and wife, Sarah, Brian Klosterboer, Brittiany Czech, and four great-grandchildren:  Rose, Tess, Faye and Drew Klosterboer.  Also, surviving is a brother John R. Howard and wife, Carolyn of Nicholasville, several nieces and nephews, cousins, many friends, and a beloved feline.

Martha attended Cincinnati and Nicholasville schools and graduated from University High School and Transylvania College, both in Lexington, Ky.  At Transy, she majored in vocal music and was a member of Phi Mu Sorority, Phi Beta Music and Speech Fraternity and the Acapella Choir.  She later taught music in Harlan, Nelson, Woodford and Laurel county schools, always marveling at the abundance of musical talent in Kentucky.  She also gave private piano and vocal lessons for many years.

In 1956, Martha married Howard Fawbush who also taught school music, vocal and instrumental, until he entered the Christian ministry in 1967.  Together, they served the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) Churches in Kentucky, Illinois and Louisiana, where Martha played many roles, including singer, organist, pianist, choir director, youth leader, counselor, teacher and whatever else was needed.

Her other interests were collecting antiques, rose gardening, sewing, entertaining and enjoying family, friends and her cats.  To say that she was into color analysis is an understatement as she truly believed that everyone should wear their right colors!  She was an Autumn!  As most mothers, she believed how you behaved was of utmost importance.  Always act classy was her advice, and “classy” never had to do with how much money you had!

For her whole life, Martha made life beautiful with her music!  Thank you for the music, Martha!

Martha lived with leukemia many years after she was predicted to live, and her family is so thankful for those extra years that we had with her.  She died of Covid19.

A Private Family Remembrance Service will be 2:00 PM  on Friday Feb. 19, (new date due to weather) at Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home with Rev. Lon Oliver officiating. She will be laid to rest in Maple Grove Cemetery following the  Service.  The Service will be live-streamed at 2:00 PM EST.
