Billy Joe Smith

Billy Joe Smith, 69, loving and devoted husband of Leann Smith for 33 years, on Thursday, July 8, 2021 went to heaven to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  He was one of eight children born to the late Churchill and Lily Gray Smith of Manchester, Kentucky.  Billy Joe was self employed as a farmer, who loved fishing and camping  at his and Leann’s “Happy Place” on the river.  He was a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church. He will be fondly remembered by not only his wife but children Lynn Davis, husband Burley, Anthony “Bubby” Smith, wife Kellie, Bobby Joe Smith, wife Glinda, Brandon Johnson, wife Liz, and Billie Jean Caldwell, husband Bub, his 19 grandchildren and 14 great grand children.  He leaves his childhood memories with sister Joyce Couch, husband Elmer, brothers James Smith, wife Rita, Randy Smith, wife Missy, Doug Smith, and Mike Smith, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and many other extended family members.  Billy Joe was preceded in death by a son Michael Lee Haggard, and brothers Marty Wayne and Charles Smith. A Remembrance Service will be held Monday, July 12, at 11:00 AM at Lighthouse Baptist Church, following which he will be laid to rest in Maple Grove Cemetery. The family will greet friends beginning at 6:00 PM and ending at 8:00 PM on Sunday, July 11, at Lighthouse Baptist Church, 105 Shun Pike, Nicholasville, KY.  Donations may be made to Lighthouse Baptist Church Building Fund in his memory. “His life was a blessing, His memory a treasure, He was loved beyond word, and will be missed beyond measure.”  Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home values nothing more than the trust given to us to care for Billy Joe’s arrangements.
