Bettie Cook Obituary

Bettie Sue Cook, 90, of Wilmore, went home to The Lord on September 23, 2021. Her faithful eagerness for the promise of Heaven was our inspiration, and we rejoice that she now fully inherits Jesus’s victory over death! Bettie was born April 17, 1931 in Hopkins County, KY to the late Lindsay and Ava (Morgan) Cobb. After a full and fun childhood living in many towns across Kentucky, she graduated from Nortonville High School in 1949, and, the very next day, embarked on a 64 year marriage with the love of her life, Lloyd. She retired from a fondly remembered career on the support staff of Longest Elementary School in Powderly, KY in 1988, then focused her time on what she had always loved most: her family, cooking, reading, camping, and collecting cookbooks (over 500, which she read like novels.) Bettie was the strong, joyful matriarch of a family she adored and tirelessly supported, as well as a dear friend and confidante to many, especially in Wilmore and Muhlenberg/Hopkins counties. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. She is survived by her daughters Alice Lynn Nicoletta & husband Michael of Lexington and Janet Leigh Brumfield & husband Jim of Wilmore, and grandchildren Christopher Paul Nicoletta and Matthew Scott Nicoletta of Carlsbad, CA; Jonathan Ryan Nicoletta and Marc Daniel Nicoletta of Lexington, KY; and Jacob Dillon Brumfield of New York, NY. Respecting Bettie’s desire to protect her family from pandemic health hazards, there will be no scheduled visitation and Rev. Darryl Diddle will officiate a private funeral service Wed, Sept 29 at Wilmore Free Methodist Church, with private burial to follow in Wilmore Cemetery. Friends are welcome to share their love and condolences in other safe ways, including via email to kycookfamily@gmail.com. Serving Bettie as pallbearers will be Michael Nicoletta, Jim Brumfield, Jon Nicoletta, and Jacob Brumfield. Honorary pallbearers are Gene Lloyd & Zula Ann Courtney, Lyman & Connie Cox, Dorothy Thompson, Hilda Goodlett, Lena Wade, Chris Nicoletta, Matt Nicoletta, and Marc Nicoletta. In lieu of flowers, the family would be blessed by your donation to the Wilmore Free Methodist Church. Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
