Richard Allen Muncy, 73, of Nicholasville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully at his home on July 2, 2026.
Richard was born on August 19, 1952, in Madison, West Virginia, to the late Luther and Bernice Muncy.
After graduating from Alice Lloyd College and Morehead State University, Richard dedicated more than 20 years to education, teaching students in kindergarten through sixth grade at Pigeon Roost Elementary School in Pilgrim, Kentucky. More than teaching academics, he instilled patience, curiosity, and kindness in his students. He had a remarkable gift for recognizing the potential in every child, making sure each one felt valued, capable, and encouraged.
Outside the classroom, Richard enjoyed camping, performing magic tricks, spending time with his grandsons, discovering new restaurants, watching historical documentaries, and pursuing what he always hoped would be the world’s best hot dog.
Richard will be remembered for his humor, perseverance, gentle spirit, and lifelong love of learning. His life was a testament to the power of curiosity, resilience, and compassion, and his influence will continue to live on through the many lives he touched.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 46 years, Saundra Muncy of Nicholasville, Kentucky; his son, Jeremy (Courtney) Muncy of Nicholasville, Kentucky; and his beloved grandsons, Aidan and Nolan Muncy. He is also survived by his brother, Glenn (Carolyn) Muncy of Shelby Gap, Kentucky, along with many extended family members and dear friends who will cherish his memory.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, beginning at 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home in Nicholasville, Kentucky. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, July 9, 2026, at the funeral home with Pastor Bill Bales officiating. Following the service, Richard will be laid to rest in Maple Grove Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Jeremy Muncy, Glenn Muncy, Matthew Frankenburger, Jeremy Teater, Daniel Arnold, and Aaron Gillum.
Richard’s kindness, wisdom, and unwavering love for his family will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
This obituary was lovingly submitted by the Muncy family. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home, and we extend our deepest sympathy to Richard’s family and friends.
