Nicholasville: Paul E. Underwood, 86, of Carolyn Lane, formerly of Whitesburg, Ky., died Sun. July 30, at St. Joseph Hospital. A native of Jeffersonville, TN., he was born June 30, 1920, to Lewis Thomas and Mary B. Palmer Underwood. He was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church, the Whitesburg Masonic Lodge #754, had served as Commander of the VFW Post 5829 and also had been a 14th District Commander. Paul loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and raising vegetables in his garden. He is survived by his wife of 59 years Inez Hammons Underwood, 2 children Diann Cundiff and husband Ron and Thomas P. Underwood and wife Wanda, 2 sisters Irene Edwards and Mary Belle Howard both of Letcher County, 3 grandchildren Kelli Lynn Cundiff Canup and husband Mitchell, R. Lee Cundiff and wife Wendy, and Jeremy Underwood and wife Elisabeth, 4 great grandchildren Abagail Underwood, Benjamin Mitchell Canup, Andrew Lee Canup and William Lewis Canup, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 5 brothers and 3 sisters. Services will be 12:30 PM Wed., Aug. 2, at HAGER & CUNDIFF FUNERAL HOME, W. Oak St. with Rev. Lonnie Moore officiating, burial in Camp Nelson National Cemetery. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Visitation will be Tues. from 4 to 8 PM at the funeral home.
