Mary Kathryn Sims Perkins entered heaven on December 14, 2025. She was predeceased by her mother Evelyn Young, half-brother Gerald Alexander and half-sister Linda Stewart, adoptive parents Hugh B. and Kathryn Sims Sr. and brothers Michael Sims, Hugh Byron Sims Jr. and Charles Kessler Sims. She is survived by half-sister Marilyn Dixon & half-brother Darrell Alexander and brother Larry Lee Sims; Nephews Chris Alexander, Kelly Alexander, Hugh Bryon Sims III, and Nieces Wilinda Ward, Alecia Khan, Lori Riddle, Carey Hill, Chastity Byrd, Jana Williams along with many grandnephews & nieces. Mary K. Perkins, a proud Kentucky Wildcat, was born on February 10, 1951, in Louisville, Kentucky but grew up in Wilmore KY. Known for her warm heart and ability to make friends with everyone she met, Mary K. lived a life full of love and connection. She graduated from Jessamine High School in 1969 and attended Eastern Kentucky University for a year before marrying the love of her life, William “Willie” Perkins, in November 1971. Together, they built a beautiful family with two children: daughter Addie Kathryn and son William Harrison “Sonny” Perkins. Mary K. began her career at Kentucky Medical Center in medical records and later moved to Houston, Texas, in 1985, where she continued her work at Memorial Hermann Hospital until retiring in 2016. Always eager to learn and serve others, she attended beauty college and became a manicurist bringing joy and companionship to residents in retirement homes and nursing centers. Her kindness extended beyond her work—Mary K. and Willie shared countless moments of giving, including dressing as Santa Claus to deliver gifts and smiles during the holidays. Mary K. is now reunited with her parents, Kathryn and Hugh, and her brothers Michael, Charles and Byron. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and friendship that will be cherished by all who knew her. Visitation will be at Wilmore United Methodist Church Clark Chapel from 4 to 8 PM on Monday December 29, 2025 followed by her funeral on December 30, 2025 at 11 AM at the Wilmore United Methodist Church Clark Chapel with visitation with the family at 10 AM prior to the service. Pall bearers are Darrell Alexander, Scott King, Aaron Williams, Alexander Riddle, Mitch Garrett, and Hector Vasquez with honorary bearers Christopher Perkins and Gilben Sims. After the service, interment will be at Bluegrass Memorial Gardens.
