James Robert Grey, 76, of Liberty, Kentucky, left his earthly home on Tuesday, June 23, 2026 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville. Robert was born November 24, 1949, in Wasco, California, to the late Henry and Mary Bennett Trampp. He grew up surfing, loving the wind and the waves. Robert then entered the US Army in August 1968, serving some of his 2-year stint in Vietnam. He was a dedicated soldier, earning several service medals including the Purple Heart. Later Robert worked as a Postal Carrier for the US Postal Service for 20 years. He enjoyed working on projects around the house and liked making things with wood, like birdhouses. He also liked to fish in his free time.
Robert leaves wonderful memories with his devoted wife Elizabeth McCormack, his sister Debbie Morris, his brother-in-law Alan Neal, and his nephew Matthew Neal, and other extended family members and close friends. In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his wife Jennifer, his brothers Bill and Jack Trampp, his sister Martha Trampp, and his sister-in-law Claudia Neal.
There will be a Graveside Service with Military Honors at 1:30 PM Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at Camp Nelson National Cemetery, after which Robert will be laid to rest with his beloved first wife, Jennifer. His family will greet friends from 12:00-1:00 PM Tuesday at Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home. “Taps: Day is done, gone the sun, from the lake, from the hill, from the sky. All is well, safely rest, God is nigh. Thanks and praise for our days, ‘neath the sun, ‘neath the stars, ‘neath the sky. As we go, this we know, God is nigh.” Arrangements are entrusted to Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home, and we extend our deepest sympathy to the Grey family and friends.
