Gerald “Jerry” David Ammons, aged 72, of Nicholasville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2026 surrounded by his loving family.

Born on March 14, 1954, in Brevard, North Carolina, Jerry was the son of the late Jack and Marian Ammons. He received a B.A. in Mathematics (1976) from Berea College in KY and an M.S. in Mathematical Sciences (1978) from Clemson University in SC. He then spent the following 38 years as a computer programmer and software engineer solving technical problems in broadcasting and technology. He volunteered his unique skill sets to various Christian ministries. Outside the office, Jerry was a master woodworker and guitar luthier, avid musician, table tennis player, and Christian.

Born among the warm embrace of the Appalachian Mountains, Jerry was an admirer of his natural surroundings. As a young man he was born again renewed by the Holy Spirit just before meeting his wife while at Berea College. He went on to share his faith and love of the natural world and science with his family, bringing them along on various waterfall hikes to discover God’s works that inspired his life.

He will forever be remembered for his moral integrity and character, loyalty, selflessness, analytical mind, and sense of humor.

Jerry is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Joellen Ammons; his five children, Andrew (Tara), Mark (Tori), Joey (Rachel), Jessie, and Kim (William); his four grandchildren, Lily, Sam, Eva, and Simon; and his sister Julie Seanor. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jack “Rick” Ammons.

A Celebration of Life will be held on July 31 at 2pm at Generations Community Church, 981 S Main Street, Nicholasville, KY 40356.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to either Generations Community Church at the address above or Berea College at PO Box 1855 Berea, KY 40403.
