Doris Bunton Stephenson, 97, entered eternity with Christ at her son’s home in Deltona, FL December 14, 2025. She was a wife, mother (1), grandmother (4), great grandmother (12), great-great grandmother (1), and is survived by many great friends. All of whom will miss her.

Myrtle Parsons (husband Elmer) gave birth to Doris on October 17, 1928 at their home in the Buena Vista community of Garrard Co., Kentucky. She was the youngest of five children all of whom preceded her in death. She had a close relationship with her siblings, and as the baby of the family, was routinely and affectionately teased by her three older brothers – until she married. Consequently, she had a lively sense of humor and a healthy humility.

While a senior at Buena Vista High School her picture with two classmates was published in LOOK magazine resulting in numerous written proposals of marriage. However, on a blind date a few years later she met the love of her life, Elmer Stephenson (d. 1977). They discovered they had the same middle name, and his first name was the same as her father. They married in 1949. A friend assumed he had recently died because of how she spoke of him. “When did he die?,” they asked. She responded, “fifteen years ago.” In 1953 she gave birth to Brad who married Pam resulting ultimately in her becoming a great-great grandmother.

Apart from time with her family and friends, her greatest joy was decorating her home and herself. Even in her last days in FL she managed to direct her daughter in law’s Christmas decorations. She valued civility which meant always looking and being your best for the sake of yourself and others. She evidently succeeded as many routinely expressed Appreciation for her efforts. She also worked outside the home in many jobs from switchboard operator, to secretary, to bookkeeper, retail sales, and lastly Court Clerk staff until she was 90. As one relative put it, “she lived until she died.”.

In the end she only expressed one regret. “I wish I had studied the Bible while I could still see to read.” Her family and friends rejoice trusting she now sees better than ever. This obituary was lovingly submitted by the family. Services and visitation are pending at the Hager and Cundiff Funeral Home. All arrangements are under the direction of Hager and Cundiff Funeral Home and we would like to express our deepest sympathy to the Stephenson family and friends. “Wherever a beautiful soul has been, there is a trail of beautiful memories”.
