Dena Carol Sowder

Wilmore: Dena Carol Johnson Sowder, 40, of Handy’s Bend Rd. left us on Sept. 10, to be with our Lord. She went to her heavenly home to train God’s horses the occupation that she used her talents for while here on earth with her family. She was an avid outdoors girl and liked to coach Little League Baseball. Dena was a 1984 graduate of Jessamine County High School. She was a native of Fayette County born Jan. 23, 1967 to Bobby and Brenda Browning Johnson. In addition to her parents Dena is survived by a daughter Rebecca Michelle Sowder and her father Mike Sowder and his wife Charlene, a sister Kathy Sowder and husband Benny, paternal grandmother Hattie Lou Johnson, maternal grandmother Verna May Whitlock, a nephew Joshua Pierce, her dog Cheyenne, and her horses Thunder and Firefly. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather Ray P. Johnson, maternal grandfather Freeland Browning, a maternal step grandfather Charles Whitlock, a nephew Richard Hendren, and her namesake Nancy Dean Kelly.

Services will be 1:00 PM Thurs., Sept. 13, at Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home with Rev. Elise Johnstone officiating, burial in Bluegrass Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Chuck Kelly, David Covington, Mike Browning, David Garrett, Jesse Jackson and David Elliott. Honorary bearers will be Linda Perdue, Diane Peel, Joyce and Velmo Jones, Stephanie Smith, and Chris ‘Tex’ Lalumandier. Visitation will be on Wed., Sept. 12, from 4 to 9 PM at the funeral home.
