Clayton Curtis (Curt) Poor, 92, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 9. Born on November 11, 1933, in Wilmore, Kentucky he was the son of the late Clayton and Mable Poor. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Gail Crawford Poor, his three children, Tami (Norman) Baker of Georgetown, David (Carmon) Poor of Nicholasville and Steven (Rebecca) Poor of Nicholasville; his six grandchildren, Melissa Hawley, Savannah (Lucas) Monroe, Sydney Poor, Lucas Poor, Sammy Poor and Whitley (Max) Colburn; and his four great grandchildren, Tanner Hawley, Madison Hawley, Laney Monroe and Bentley Monroe. Curt was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Bob Poor, Bill Poor and Donald Poor and his sister, Betty Stephens.
A very special person to him was his beloved cousin and lifelong friend Charles (Shorty) Hahn. They shared many laughs and experiences together. A 1952 graduate of Versailles High School, Curt proudly served his country in the United States Army as a Tank Commander while stationed in Germany following the Korean War. He carried great pride in his military service throughout his life. Curt enjoyed sports and rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on his Cincinnati Reds and University of Kentucky Basketball, especially enjoying the success of the UK Women’s Basketball. Visitation will be held at Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home in Nicholasville on Wednesday, July 15, from 5:00 until 8:00 pm and Thursday, July 16, from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 pm on Thursday with Doug Fain and Reverand Lon Oliver officiating. Burial, with Military honors, will follow at Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Jessamine County. Serving as pallbearers will be Billy Wayne Poor, Ricky Poor, Doug Fain, Jeff Ransdell, Michael Masterson and Todd Wells. Honorary pallbearers are Lucas Poor, Sammy Poor, Norman Baker and Lucas Monroe. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Curt’s memory to Boys Town, Omaha, Nebraska, a non-profit organization that has been helping children since 1917. Donations may be made online at https://www.boystown.org or may also be made at the funeral home during the visitation or service. The family appreciates your kindness, prayers and support during this time.
