Charles (Charlie) Phillips Partin passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of October 14, 2026, at home, surrounded by love and supported by the compassionate care of hospice. He was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 70 years, Marjorie Reynolds Partin.
Charlie was born on September 16, 1927, in a tenant house on the Land farm just south of Nicholasville, Kentucky. He was the middle son of James Harvey Partin and Anna Ruth Megee, growing up alongside his brothers Harry Baxter and James Gilbert who are all deceased.
At age 5, they moved to a farmhouse on Highway 27 across from Sugar Creek Pike, where life was simple, hardworking, and rooted in family and community. He attended Hanley School, walking with his brother and neighborhood children along the country roads. He completed his high‑school education in Nicholasville, graduating in 1945.
At age eighteen, he registered for the draft during World War II and was inducted into the U.S. Army in January 1946. He completed basic training at Camp Lee, Virginia, later serving in the newly formed 458th Amphibious Truck Company. His service included large‑scale naval maneuvers along the Pacific coast and the Aleutian Islands. After his honorable service, he returned home and resumed his education.
He attended Transylvania University, quickly earning a degree in Business Administration and Economics with a minor in Political Science. He married the love of his life, Marjorie Reynolds, on September 7, 1950, at St. Luke Catholic Church in Nicholasville. As he fondly recalled, “My brother, Harry, was my best man…Jimmy was the ring bearer…This was a moment to remember.”
Early in his career, Charlie worked at the Lexington Signal Depot and later in insurance but found his calling in banking. In 1957 he joined First National Bank as a management trainee, rising over the years to First Vice President & Senior Auditor. He completed extensive professional training, including the Bank Administration Institute School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin. He retired at age 60 after a distinguished career and devoted much of his later life to volunteer service, including leadership roles with the Nicholasville Public Housing Authority, St. Luke Parish Council, and Maple Grove Cemetery Board.
Charles and Marjorie built a loving family together, raising three sons—Charles Jr. (Donna), Lee (Mary), and Timothy (Vicki). He took great pride in their accomplishments and in the lives they built. He cherished his grandchildren, Jennifer Rust (Allen) and Stefan Partin (Mason), celebrating their achievements and milestones with joy. He loves his great grandchildren, Henry and Harrison Rust. All are surviving family members. He is also survived by nieces and nephews: Ruth Evelyn Clemmons (David), Emily Partin, Bill Partin (Kathy), Laurie Sherfey (Mark), Greg Partin and Marcia Hager (Charley)
He was very appreciative of his caregivers during his last years. They provided loving care and allowed him to remain in his house throughout. They had wonderful bonds of loving admiration. He was also blessed with awesome friendships and a great parish community at St Luke’s Church.
A man of deep curiosity and craftsmanship, he spent more than fifty years raising and perfecting rare Pheasant pigeons, earning many awards at fairs and shows. He also preserved family history, restored antique heirlooms, and worked to maintain the historic Phillips/Megee cemetery.
Charlie lived a life marked by devotion—to his faith, his family, his community, and the traditions handed down through generations. His memories of growing up in rural Jessamine County, his service to his country, his long and respected banking career, and his deep love for Marjorie and their family formed the foundation of a rich and meaningful life.
