In Loving Memory of Carletta Marie Johnson

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Carletta Marie Johnson, whose love, kindness, and presence will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

Carletta was born on September 10, 1961, in Lexington, Kentucky, to the late Carl “Buck” Hager and Thelma Hager. Throughout her life, she carried a deep love for animals and devoted the majority of her working years to caring for Thoroughbred horses as a groomer at several local farms. Her compassion for animals was a defining part of who she was.

Outside of her work, Carletta found joy in attending great rock ’n’ roll concerts, where she could enjoy the music she loved. She also cherished quiet moments spent watching classic Westerns and her favorite television show, Leave It to Beaver. These simple pleasures brought her happiness and reflected the unique personality that those closest to her will always remember.

Carletta’s greatest legacy is the family she loved so dearly. She is survived by her daughters, Heather Peel (Craig Wertz) and Natasha Blevins (Nick); her grandchildren, Trevor Peel (Kristen Weber), Daniel Hayes, and Hayleigh Peel (Dylan Kirk); and her great-grandchildren, Raelynn Kirk and Tucker Peel.

She is also survived by her sister, Liz Marler (Les); her nieces, Tiffany Tipton (Timmy) and Leslie “Renee” Blakeman (Matt); and her great-niece and great-nephews, Loralye Blakeman, Cayden Tipton, Carter Tipton, and Delos Blakeman. She was preceded in death by her brother, Forrest Lamb.

Beyond her immediate family, Carletta leaves behind many dear, longtime friends who became an extension of her family, including Kim Slone, Travis Peel, and Vernon Harrison. The love and friendship they shared were an important part of her life and will remain a cherished part of her memory.

Carletta will be laid to rest alongside her parents at Maple Grove Cemetery. A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, October 30, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Blue Building at City County Park. Family and friends are invited to gather, share memories, and honor the life of a woman who meant so much to so many.

Though Carletta’s passing leaves an immeasurable void in the lives of those who loved her, her memory will live on through her family, the friendships she nurtured, the animals she cared for, and the countless moments that made her life uniquely her own. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.

This obituary was lovingly submitted by the Johnson Family. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home, and we extend our deepest sympathy to Carletta’s family and friends.
