Angie T. Simpson, a beloved educator and the woman affectionately known to many as "Momma Simpson," passed away on May 2, 2026, at St. Joseph Main in Lexington, Kentucky. She was 72 years old.
Born on August 25, 1953, in Wilmore, Kentucky, Angie dedicated her life to the service of others. A natural teacher, she retired after an impressive 43-year career in the classroom, where her influence extended far beyond academics. She was defined by her generous spirit and a kindness that knew no bounds, always offering a helping hand or a maternal word to anyone in need.
Angie was a faithful member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Georgetown, Kentucky. Her life was guided by her faith, finding particular strength and hope in her favorite scripture:
"But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint." — Isaiah 40:31
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, and her husband.
Her legacy of love lives on through her family. She is survived by her daughters, Michelle Varney (and spouse Melody) and Mikka Simpson (and partner Warren Taylor); and her cherished granddaughter, Charlotte Varney. She also leaves behind a vast community of former students and friends who considered her family.
