James “Jim” A. Bishop went to be with his Lord on Dec. 24, 2018.  He was the loving husband of Lela Mae Shelton Bishop for 70 years.  He was born in Brodhead, KY on June 18, 1925, to the late William B. and Amy Weaver Bishop and was one of their seven children.  Jim was a veteran of the US Marines having served in WWII.  He was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church, loved fishing but most of all enjoyed talking and telling stories to anyone he met.  Jim operated the Bishop Barber Shop on the corner of Maple and Lyndele for many years before his retirement.  In addition to his wife he will be fondly remembered by his children Patricia Glass, husband Larry and Michael Bishop, wife Amy, grandchildren Ashley Glass, Matthew Glass, Megan Carter husband Stephen, Rebecca Green, husband Jake, and Lydia Bishop, great grandchildren Natalie Glass, Kate and Laura Carter.  He leaves his childhood memories with his brother William Ed Bishop, wife Margie, Ervin Bishop, wife June and sister Opal Adams.  He will be missed by extended family members and his many friends.  A Remembrance Service will be 11:00 AM Friday, Dec. 28, at Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home with Rev. Don Reed officiating.  He will be laid to rest in Maple Grove Cemetery following the service.  Honoring him as pallbearers will be Rick Hisel, Paul and Charlie Floyd, Matthew Glass, Chip Sweet, and Jerry Shelton.  Honorary bearers will be Ray Bradshaw, Harry Cordier, and Curt Poor.   His family will greet friends starting at 4:00 PM and ending at 8:00 PM on Thursday, Dec 27, at the funeral home.  The family suggests donations be made in his memory to Thomson Hood Veterans Center, Wilmore, KY and extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff for the care that was given to Jim during his stay.  Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home is honored to be chosen to care for the Bishop family.
