Glydus (Wilson) Peel

July 22, 1917 ~ August 26, 2017 (age 100) 100 Years Old

Glydus Peel, 100, widow of Carter L Peel since 1992, joined him in eternal rest on Saturday, August 26.  Glydus was a native of Estill County born July 22, 1917, to the late Cornelius and Katherine Benton.  She was a hard working farm wife who also held jobs with Canada Dry Distillery and the Sewing Factory in Wilmore.  Her advice to those who asked what her secret was to living so long, was “take care of yourself, eat healthy, and exercise”.  Glydus drove a car, lived by herself, and planted a garden until she was 95 years old.  She was recognized on the House Floor in Frankfort on her 99th birthday and this year on her 100th birthday she was presented a key to the City of Nicholasville and the day was declared Glydus Peel Day in Jessamine County along with a Birthday Party and a ride down Main Street to honor the day .Glydus being a Godly woman read her Bible every night before bedtime.  She leaves special memories with her son Jerry Rice Peel, wife Dorothy, grandchildren Daivd J., Laura Susan, and Jeffery Nolan Peel, great grandchildren Bonnie Elizabeth and Troy Zachary Harper, great great grandchildren Angelina Jane and Jacob Aaron Biddle as well as brothers Glenn Wilson, wife Ann, Fred Wilson wife Bonnie and Virgil Wilson and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by a grandson Bryan Carter Peel, sisters Mary Long, Audra Wilson, and Ruth Walker and brothers Cornelius, Jr., Carl, and Russell Wilson.  A Remembrance Service will be held 2:30 PM Tuesday, August 29, at Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home.  She will be laid to rest beside her husband at Bluegrass Memorial Gardens.  Honoring her as pallbearers will be David J. and Jerry Nolan Peel, Troy Zachary Harper, Jeff Tuner, Mark and Matthew Wilson.  Honorary bearer will be Roger Donahue.  Her family will greet friends starting at 11:00 AM on Tuesday at the Funeral Home.  Donations may be made to Hospice of the Bluegrass in her memory.

This lady who played an important part of the lives of many will always be around.  She's the whisper of the leaves, the smell of certain foods remembered, the sound of the rain that lulls you to sleep, and she’s the map you follow with every step you take.   Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home is honored to serve the Peel family.
