Carl "Buck" Ray Hager

November 27, 1926 ~ September 4, 2017 (age 90)

Carl R. “Buck” Hager, 90, a native of Jessamine County born Nov. 27, 1926, to the late Tom and Josie Walker Hager left his earthly home on Sept 4.  A truly unique man he had a passion for horses having worked as a groom on some of the most prestigious farms in the Bluegrass such as Overbrook, Calumet, Spendthrift, and Poplar Hill Farm.  He probably had forgotten more about horses than most people will ever know. He loved nothing more than to meet his friends at Hardee’s to discuss a new horse he was looking at or one he had for sale.  He loved to garden and attend the chicken fights. Buck leaves many memories with his wife of 15 years Agnes Lancaster Hager, daughters Carletta Hager and Elizabeth Ann Marler, husband Les, his grandchildren Heather Dawn Peel, Tiffany Michele Tipton, husband Timothy, Natasha Blevins, husband Nick and Leslie Renee Blakeman, husband Matthew as well as 7 great grandchildren, a special niece Ann Robinson and numerous other nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by brothers Tom,Jr., Ellard, Clayton, and Cecil Hager, sisters Margaret Short, Callie Scott, Hester Hubbard, and Rena Hager and Thelma Hager his first wife and mother of his daughters.  A Remembrance Service will be held 1:00 PM Friday, Sept. 8, at Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home.  He will be laid to rest in Maple Grove Cemetery.  Honoring him as pallbearers will be Wannie Davis, Robbie Snowden, Troy Hager, Trevor Peel, Mark Short, and Theron Owens.  Honorary bearers will be Frank Hubbard, Jimmy Peel, Steve Robinson, Darrell Hanover, Bruce Vanover, Billy Teater, Charles Teater, Mac and Heath Hager. The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Thursday, Sept. 7, starting at 4:00 PM and ending at 8:00 PM.  Hager & Cundiff is honored to serve the family of this man who never met a stranger and was unique in so many ways.
