Albert "Al" McDonald Obituary

Albert “Al” Eugene McDonald, 84, loving husband of Anna Withrow McDonald, entered into eternal rest on Monday, Jan. 15, 2024, at Thomson-Hood Veterans Center.  He was a native of Henderson, Kentucky, born April 16, 1939, to the late James and Minnie Rhodes McDonald.  Al was one of their nine children. Having come from a large family, he reveled in the fact that he had 5 children, 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.  He was a proud US Marine Veteran, having served for 3 years, and a member of Masonic Lodge Aminty 40.  He was the owner of several Cable TV companies over the years, which included Mt. Olivet, Lake Carnico in Carlisle, Ky, and Falmouth Cable TV.  He had a passion for fishing and hunting, which consisted of a day leaned up against a tree dozing, and exploring his Bourbon Trail.  Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family, who will fondly remember him. In addition to the love of his life Annie, he leaves to cherish his memory daughters Kathy Sowers, Kim Lake, husband Jon, sons Rick McDonald, wife Melanie, Kirk Woosley Patton, husband Pat, Kevin Woosley, wife Tracy, and the light of his life grandchildren Ashley Sowers, husband Sam, Joshua McDonald, wife Laila, Samatha Sowers, Katie Glass, husband Keith, Janey McDonald, Mary Violet Woosley, Anna Woosley, Nathan Woosley, wife Jillian, Natalie Lake, Holly Kent, husband Beau, Sarah Munk, husband Rich, and Jacob Patton, as well as his great grandchildren Emma Smith, Khloe Smith, Kollin Glass, Lilly McDonald, Benjamin Puckett, Jack Kent, Ella Kent, Maximus McDonald, and Kolvin Glass.  He leaves his childhood memories with a sister Juanita Chaney. Al also is survived by many nieces, nephews and  extended family members. He was preceded in death by siblings James Clinton, Tom McDonald, Clarence McDonald, Joe McGuire, Barbara Austin, Betty Meredith and Patsy McDonald.  A Service of Remembrance will be held 12:30 PM Friday, Jan. 19, at Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home with the receiving of friends beginning at 10:00 AM until time of Service.  He will be laid to rest in Camp Nelson National Cemetery with Military Honors.  Honoring him as pallbearers will be Joshua McDonald, Nathan Woosley, Jon Lake, Steve Sowers, Sam Campbell, Randy Porter, Keith Glass, and Beau Kent.   The family suggests donations be made in his memory to Thomson-Hood Veterans Center in honor of the excellent care Al received.  “His life was a blessing, his memory a treasure; he was loved beyond words, and will be missed beyond measure.”   Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home values nothing more than the trust given to us to care for Al’s arrangements.
